This kit was one of the FIRST prototype kits DW made as part of their new SonicPly line and the ONLY one made with Cherry! This kit was on the showroom at the DW factory so the heads have some stick marks but the shells are beautiful!

Introducing DW SonicPly

• DW Drums is excited to add SonicPly shells to Collector’s Series offerings! After years in meticulous development with John Good and the Custom Shop team, SonicPly is a first-of-its-kind hybrid shell that delivers the thick punch of Pure Maple with the dry sustain of Aluminum. Fusing all the best of these materials, the resulting sound is both precise and wide open.
• All the sonic versatility of Cherry and Aluminum combined into one breakthrough shell design! DW SonicPly combines aircraft-grade aluminum with an American Cherry for enhanced attack and articulation, offering warm tonality and focused sustain!

Hybrid Metal / Cherry Shells

• For this kit, 10" - 22" SonicPly drums feature an 8-Ply Cherry shell with a 1/36" Aluminum sheet replacing the middle ply.
• SonicPly snare drums feature a 12-Ply Cherry shell with two 1/36" Aluminum Sheets sandwiching the middle plies.

Bearing Edge

• These Collector’s Series shells are precision-cut with 45-degree (toms) and 60-degree (bass and snare) bearing edges.
• These edges provide tonality and sustain from your toms, and depth and punch from your bass and snare.

Sound Comparison

• Compared to the neutral tone of a Pure Cherry drum shell, the SonicPly shell produces a higher pitch, brighter tone, and shorter sustain. Combining the warm resonance of Cherry with the dry attack of Aluminum results in a bright and resonant but controlled and consistent drum sound perfect for touring and studio drummers alike.
