The vertical grain reduces tension on a shell, allowing it to vibrate more freely for lower fundamental pitch. A Collector's Series Favorite: 12-ply VLT snare shells feature select 1/36" plies cross-laminated to deliver attack, full-bodied mids, and great resonance.
